Fire claims pastor’s home
On October 9th, Rev Nilo Rosende and his family experienced a tragic loss.
Less than a week after the Ondoy flood in Manila, Rev. Renato Villagonza was surprised to receive a text message from Rev. Rosende, the pastor of Mandaue First Church of the Nazarene, at about 11:am on October 8. Fire had raced though their community gutting many home. The pastor lost all his belongings, but only one person in the community was killed of the 136 families that were affected.
Rev. Villagonza reports that the fire started in the morning, in the center of the compound which allowed people to escape to the outside without being trapped by the small narrow path that winds through the compound giving access to homes.
The Mandaua church responded immediately with gifts of clothing, food and other necessary items for the family. The Rosende family is temporarily living in the Church parsonage while they work to restore their family home. The whole of the Central Visayas district has responded to both the flood in Manila and the loss of the Rosende family. Nazarene Compassionate ministries also helped with funds for the relief of fire victims.
Rev. Villagonza, District Superintendent, Central Visayas is asking for prayer for the Philippines. Perhaps God will awaken the nation through these calamities.
