Translations Underway

Monday, March 1st, 2010

“It’s Fun!”  “It’s nice to translate.”  “I really like translating” were phrases bouncing around the inside of Nazareth Hall with the noise of laughter, clicking cups of coffee and clicking keyboards.    Nearly 20 people had gathered to translate the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene into four and hopefully five different languages.    Using a new web based tool designed by World Mission Communications, the groups were quickly working through the material.   Laptops and projectors helped with the collaboration.

The Morning swarmed with technical people getting things set up.  Cables, cords and routers were installed.   Initial training was done and soon the teams were hard at work.   A few more technical glitches smoothed out and the words began to fly onto the website.

Hopefully we will have the translations completed by this Friday.  Pray for us!

How do you multiply churches?  We received the following email from the District Superintendent of Metro Manila. This past year the Metro Manila District led the Philippines with 500 people received into membership by profession of faith.  The letter below is slightly edited for clarity.

Nazarene Doctors

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Dr. Dante Rio, a member of the Nazarene Christian Fellowship, has become very active in his faith. His wife, also a medical doctor, started an outreach clinic to the poor held each Sunday Morning from 7am to 9am before church. Dr. Dante Rio is also holding a Bible Study at a medical clinic in the Santa Lucia mall. Up to 12 nurses and doctors attend this and Dr. Rio is very new to this ministry. Several of the doctors and nurses are opposed to this Bible study but the owner of the mall requested the Dr. to hold this after Rev. Jason Hallig visted him.

Black Nazarene

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Rev. Luz Tamayo reports that a former devote to the Black Nazarene in Quiapo has come to Christ. The man’s wife was disturbed by his strong devotion and painful sacrifices to the Black Nazarene. He learned about our church in a bible study in a factory near the Taytay Church of the Nazarene. The factory is owned by a Nazarene and the workers must attend the Bible Study. He was baptized in our last men’s camp (more…)
